Schleicher County, Texas is a rural county in west-central Texas centered on the city of Eldorado. Established in 1887 and formally organized in 1901, the county covers a large area of rolling terrain on the Edwards Plateau with a very low population density typical of West Texas ranch country. Agriculture and livestock—especially cattle, sheep, and goats—have long been important to the local economy, alongside contributions from oil and gas development. With its wide open spaces, agricultural roots, and community-focused way of life, Schleicher County offers a distinct rural character for residents and visitors alike.
